Holly L. Clifton, age 81, died on July 21, 2025, after a sudden and aggressive illness. Born in Berlin, Germany on July 26, 1943, Holly’s life was defined by resilience, wit, and a fierce love for those around her. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1951, living first in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, then Fort Wayne, Indiana, and eventually Saint Clair Shores, Michigan—all places where she built a life full of laughter, loyalty, and unforgettable stories.
Holly is survived by her devoted son, James, and cherished grandson, Jon Jeffrey Clifton (aka JJ); her loving sister, Ellinor Joseph; nieces and nephew: Maria (Bradley) Nash, Bill (Julie) Joseph, and Lauren (Dave) Anlauf; many great-nieces and nephews; her lifelong friends Toby Lang and Marianne (Ludwig) Schneider; and her close German family friends Lovis (Alina) Rieck and Grisha Rieck.
Holly was preceded in death by her parents, Ted & Herta Horn.
Known for her wild sense of humor and mischievous grin, Holly had a knack for turning any conversation into a punchline. Her favorite quip—delivered with perfect timing—was: “That’s what she said last night!” She was the kind of person who could light up a room with a single comment and keep everyone laughing long after.
Holly had a deep love for German Shepherds, and her home was always filled with their loyal presence. A gifted seamstress, she created dazzling costumes for professional wrestlers and performers, blending creativity with craftsmanship. In her earlier years, she was active in the Sports Car Club of America, serving as a safety inspector and uniform specialist. She also loved traveling, especially to Hawaii, where she found joy in the ocean breeze and island sunsets.
Her legacy lives on not only in the hearts of those who knew her, but also in the lives she touched through her generosity and spirit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Turnstone Center for Children & Adults with Disabilities in Fort Wayne, Indiana—a place that held deep meaning for her family and supported her grandson, JJ, for many years.
