Irene May Barbour

Irene May Barbour, age 100, passed away on August 7, 2022. She was born on May 18, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to her late parents George and Hazel Soper. Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, William Skwiera, and second husband, Edward R. Barbour. She is survived by her loving children: Susan (John) Hunt, Edward (Jennifer Spada) Barbour; daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Barbour; grandchildren: Sarah Barbour, Andrea (Christian) Becker, Jenna (Paul) Christy, Anya (Jacob) Ouelette, Andrew (Emily) Hunt; 7 great-grandchildren; dear friend: Hon. Benedict Segesta; and many dear nieces and nephews. Irene was the junior choir director and back-up organist at Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a choir member and played the bells at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church. Irene was a passionate pianist and enjoyed playing many classical pieces on her beloved piano. Irene worked for 37 years as a legal secretary for the Honorable Benedict Segesta. She was a benefactor to the Macomb Center for Performing Arts, an avid yoga practitioner, and a lover of opera and the symphony. She watched many performances from her box seat at the Detroit Opera House. Irene loved walking the Mackinac Bridge every year with her friends. She loved playing cards and was known as the Rummy Queen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. (gathering 10:00 a.m.) at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church, 27801 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores.
