My sincere heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Carroll family.  I first met Jim and Jenny when my son fell in love with their niece, Erin. Watching Jim interact with his brothers, John and Ed, always brought laughter to anyone in the room.  The love between Jim and Jenny was always evident. They  certainly lived the textbook on how to have a happy marriage.  Jenny and I hit it off from the first time I met her. She has a way of making anyone feel welcome, even when they are stumbling through life. I pray for strength and courage, as Jim would have wanted, for the entire family left behind.

How does one except yet another lose, of such a very special man?
My first memory of Uncle Jim was when he would come to pick up Aunt Jenny for a date.
I would hide behind Nana’s sofa and watch them kiss.
Uncle Jim would go hunting yearly and I got to go and stay with Aunt Jenny.
We would visit, take care of the babies Annie and Patty and paint our nails.
It was more then once the the two of them came to visit me in CA. 
I loved my time with them.
Uncle Jim was the one, who gently called, to tell me we had lost Lynne.
He embraced my Dylan and was always a joy to be around.
Uncle Jim called me earlier in the year,  to assure me he was doing much better. I will always cherish that call and those moments with him.
You were an amazing Husband, Father and Friend.
Rest In Peace dear man.

One of my favorite memories of my Uncle Jim was when we were at a family wedding in San Diego together.  Before the Bride and Groom came into the reception, we were all seated at tables and the D.J. was making his way around the room, with a microphone,  asking the guests to offer their best advice for a long and happy marriage.  Various people offered the usual advice; "never go to sleep angry, always talk through your problems, treat your spouse like a best friend, always be faithful and honest with one another".... and then Uncle Jim spoke.  He said simply; "I can give you all the advice you need with just two words. "  The D.J. said, "Okay, really, what two words would that be? "  And, then Uncle Jim said- "YES DEAR."  
Of course, everyone thought that was hilarious.  But, it was also so emblematic of who he was.  He was a quiet, gentle man who loved his  family.   Everyone who knew him knew that he was a great husband, a great father and an amazing grandfather (& Uncle!)  
He will be missed but his simple advice for a happy life will live on.

I met "Uncle Jim" while dating my now husband in 1976.  He didn't hesitate to spend time with a newbie.  He had the most direct gaze as he talked about the struggle of working too much and raising his family.  I so appreciated that he sat and listened and seemed not to have a better place to be.  After that, I always felt no matter where I saw him, he was happy to see me.  Such a special man.
