James Anthony Johns was born on August 23, 1943 in Detroit to Paul and Georgia Johns. As a boy, Jim loved cars, playing baseball, working in his father's restaurant, going to his parent's cottage in Lexington, Michigan and spending time with his grandparents.
He attended Grosse Pointe Schools and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and was a Vietnam Veteran. When he returned home from the service he attended and graduated from Wayne State University. He was the owner of Como's Collision in St. Clair Shores for thirty years. He loved running his business and the people he served there. Jim continued his family tradition of owning a cottage in Lexington and enjoyed his time there with family.
He was in the Air Force National Guard in Florida and Michigan after his time in the Air Force. Upon retirement, he was a VFW member at the Bruce Post in St. Clair Shores and performed over 100 funerals where he presented the flag to honor veterans and their families.
He is survived by Cheryl, his wife for over 50 years, his daughter Hilary Johns, daughter Alison Johns Maniaci and two grandchildren, Chloe and Aiden, as well as his sister Mary Ann Brand, and nephews, D.J. and Derek Brand.
Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 am, on Thursday November 2, 2023, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Road, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48080.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday November 1, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, with an Honors Salute, at 7:00 pm, at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081.
James will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, Michigan 48442.
