Karen Anne LaValley, age 73, passed away on August 5, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan to her late parents James and Shirley Svenson. She was the beloved wife to the late Gary LaValley. Karen is the devoted mother of Eric (Beth) LaValley; and loving grandmother to Jaycie and Zachary LaValley. Karen is survived by her brothers and sister, Bill, Tom (Lori), and Rita Svenson, cousin Nancy (Dean), like a sister, along with many other cousins, in-laws, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Barbara English, Janet Svenson, and Meg McLaren.
Karen was known for her genuine heart and nurturing ways. She lit up the room with her joyful soul and her fun-loving free spirit. She loved crafting but also had a wild side exhibited by her love of concerts, tattoos, and Harley Davidson. Karen’s favorite thing was being Nana to Jaycie and Zach. She loved spending time with them, watching them play sports, camping with, and spoiling them. Karen was incredibly proud of her son Eric and always said, “You’re one of the best things I ever did.” She especially loved their one-on-one time doing lunches and just being together. She was also extremely close to her daughter-in-law, Beth, as they shared a love for anything tropical, wine, and making memories.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests a donation to Disabled American Veterans or American Diabetes Association.
