Mathew James Gaberty, age 86, a resident of St. Clair Shores, passed away on December 24th, 2012 in Mt. Clemens. He was born on September 27, 1926 in Chicago. Mr. Gaberty was very active in Macomb County politics and was instrumental in starting a heart institute at Mt, Clemens General, now known as McLaren Macomb, which bears his name. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Dorothy, his children Mathew (the late Leota) Gaberty and Linda (Robert) Hagemann, grandchildren Robert (Julie) Hagemann, Christopher (Kristin Stroley) Hagemann, Lindsay (Aaron) Martens, Kelly (Salvatore) Armata, Mathew (Krista) Gaberty and great grandchildren Katelyn, Alyssa, Annie and Mathew. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Elizabeth,his brother Robert, and his sister Betty. Funeral Services will be held 10am Friday, January 4th at the Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Avenue, St. Clair Shores Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3rd from 3-9pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Mat Gaberty Heart Center at McLaren Macomb Hospital.
