Maureen T. Sandercott, age 66, passed away on May 30, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1959 to her late parents John and Kathleen Carolin. Maureen was a beloved and cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her, and she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection.
Maureen is survived by her beloved daughter, Ashley (Justin) Serra; loving granddaughters, Sunny, Ivy; caring siblings, Kathleen “Kay” (the late Fred) Carolin, Mary (John) Steigelman; and dear step-mother, Sharon Carolin.
Maureen attended St. Matthews for grade school and graduated from Bishop Gallagher in 1977. With characteristic determination, she pursued her studies and professional training, receiving her certificate as a respiratory therapist and working at St. John Hospital. She later graduated from Wayne State University with her bachelor’s in accounting and went on to work in accounting for several years.
In 1987, at the age of 27, Maureen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Her family remains forever grateful for the care provided by Dr. Andayi, who served as Maureen’s neurologist for 40 years and was much loved by Maureen and her family. Throughout the years, Maureen’s resilient spirit was inspiring. She met life’s challenges and continued to value the people and moments that mattered most. She was very close with her grandfather and Aunt Margaret and they were a large part of her life.
Maureen was married to Drew Sandercott for a short time. Maureen’s daughter, Ashley, was born in 1991 and was her pride and greatest joy.
Maureen was an avid Detroit sports fan and enjoyed following her teams with genuine enthusiasm. She also had a full life with many friends, and the warmth of those friendships remained an important part of her days. For the last five years, she lived at American House Lakeshore, where she especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the sun, watching the lake.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:30 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores.
