Just now learning of Mike's passing. What a great guy! Mike would often call me just to say Hi and to see how I was doing. I will miss him.

Captain Cote, To a real original person; kind, loving, caring, funny and one of a kind. I talked to him about once a week. We are good friends and I love him for the wonderful person that he is and always will be in my heart. Take care buddy, save me a seat next to you at the big guy’s table because for sure that’s where you’re going to be!!      Steve Lloyd

Mike was mom's first born and favorite (although she didn't say that out loud too often) lol.   We knew it and Mike knew it.   Mom loved going over to Mike's house years ago, putzing around, cleaning and just hanging out.    Glad Mike and mom were able to see each other a few weeks ago.    There are no words for the sadness. 

Mike - love you always!  Miss your laugh and the many unintentional phone messages you left me.

I will truly miss you.  To Mike's friends and family, Mike will be coming to our home in Roscommon, MI, where he can rest in peace.  We will be back in early summer to celebrate his life.

Thank you everyone for sharing your memories with us  it means so much.  Michael was loved by so many.  Living in Florida I miss my family every day and have missed so much over the years.  It’s very hard not to be able to have a proper send off now and be able to celebrate his life.

Such sad news Mike was loved by so many, there is only one Cote. So nice reading all these stories of Cote in everyone's life. Can't remember the first time we meet It may of been with the Harley's back in the early 70's or before while visiting Don across the street. But I will never forget Cote,, loved that guy.
Had a lot of fun on the Harley's. Getting together in the back room of Sammy's with the Old Man, another one of a kind. Mike at Sabbys making those great burgers. Since the early 80's it's his MCA landscaping that has kept us in touch. Mike was an artist at his trade.
People today even comment on my landscaping and how nice it is. Mike did a lot of work in our subdivision for many years designing our entrances, building a bridge through our wetlands and defining our path through the woods. Planting our flowers every year he loved doing the work and called our subdivision his own.  Mike would come over in the morning with an old coffee cup in his hands. I would ask him if he wanted a refill. In his jovial voice he would say oh no it is perfect. It took me many years to realize there never was any coffee in that cup. Cote you will be missed dearly. Going to miss those calls on the holidays from you. R.I.P my friend. Carol and I will really miss you.

Goodbye my good friend, you will be missed but never forgotten! Thanks for all the good times we had at Sabby's even when I had to watch all the Frank Zappa videos with you. Thanks for all the BS  sessions we had in the garage while sharing  a few beers and telling each other stories. And thanks for all the tomatoes you brought over every week over the years. I'm sure you already cracked open a bottle with Jerry so until we meet again, save me a seat.

Just want to express my love for Cote he will be missed so bad
He was my oldest and one of my dearest friends , we were actually blood brothers i had cut myself accidentally and said hey Cote lets be blood brothers we talked about it so not to keen on the idea he pricked him self and we fused our blood for life
There was only 1 Cote never be a person who could ever take his place or his personally 
He had more friends then anyone i know 
I will never ever forget him God bless you Cote hope to see you soon
Mike Mazzola 

Mike was my neighbor growing up. His family lived behind us and I was about 10 years old and Mike was my brothers age 4 years younger. My brother Mike and Mike Cote became Best friends. Their friendship lasted  their entire lives. I got to know Mike when I rented a room from him on Violet street for a few months. I'll never forget his aquarium filled with Piranhas and how he loved feeding and watching them eat in frenzy. I never was late with the rent. 
He was always a happy guy and enjoyed his friends from old days. He  could be quiet and fun but also obnoxious but that's who he was and we all loved him for who he was. 
Eventually he moved in with me and my brother and wanted to stay in the basement where he enjoyed old TV shows especially "Leave it to Beaver". 
He was a person you could depend on and loved his work. He put in a lawn for me a few years ago and it is still the best lawn on the block. My dad is looking down with a smile on his face. He loved good looking lawns too. In fact Cote called me about a week ago and he complimented on how good the lawn looked. I said your the one who put it in and I thank you. We had a great talk and he said he was coming over to show me how to trim the tree that  he planted. I'll miss him dearly. Give a hug to my Dad for me, Cote, he is waiting for. 


Oh, my sweet Mike, you will be missed for sure.  I love you so much.  I know your dad and my dad and Aunt Ethel and Larry are all-embracing you right now.  I will see you again my cuz.  I will always cherish the Angel you gave me.

It was the early 70’s. Mike Cote, Mike Mazzola, Joe Tocco and I set out on  a motorcycle ride to Colorado. Three Sportsters and a Super Glide. Before we got past Ann Arbor Cote’s sleeping bag, which was strapped on his rear fender, slipped down and got caught between his rear finder and wheel. Instantly his wheel locked up, his tire was smoking, and he skidded off the side of I-94. Some truck driver almost put an end to all of us that day. We stopped in Benton Harbor and spent the first night in what I thought was an unusual kind of campground. The next night we camped beside the Mississippi River. The four of us became even greater friends during that trip and shared some wild experiences. We got kicked out of a campground for making too much noise. Kicked out of a rest area, by men with chains,  for sleeping on picnic tables, Chased out by a farmer, with a shotgun.  for sleeping in his corn field.  We met people who lived in tents in Colorado and who shared a joint with their three year old child. Joe Tocco got shot in the chest by a fireworks rocket that fell sideways. All of it was fun to laugh about afterwards. Mike Cote’s laugh was infectious. His laugh made me feel good and I laughed at the sound of him laughing. On the occasions that we would see each other we would tell stories and laugh.  I am going to miss that laugh and I am going to miss you Mike Cote. God bless you!  You will always be one of my very best friends.


Uncle Mike, what can I say? You gave me my first job and responsibility at 14 when I first starting working with you. I was always proud to be the “A” in MCA landscaping for so many years. You were tough on me, but never forgot that I was family first, an employee second. As I got older, I loved sharing a drink with you after work, where we became friends. I will never forget the head slaps as I fell asleep in the work truck, the countless hours spent on the job, and the many memories we made as I was growing up. I know it was a lifetime ago, but I made my very own MCA landscaping wall in my backyard this summer with all the things you taught me, and I know you would have said “it’s beau-tee-ful”. I’m sad you never got to come by to see it for yourself.  I’ll miss stopping by unannounced, just to be welcomed into the backyard for some fun. 
I miss you already uncle Mike, “love ya brother”. RIP. 

My memories of my big brother:
Mike  asking me to wash & polish the motorcycle,   clean out and wash the T-Bird  it only took  a couple of hours, but hey I got 25 cents!!  Boy was I happy!  After that, I got to crack his knuckles..... if I could crack them 25 times I'd get a dollar, but they'd only crack 24 times!!   Oh, let's not forget when I got to crack open the whole bag of red pistachios the extra large bag , of course... for a dollar,  red fingers needless to say!  Later in years we would shoot pool, play scrabble  and just hang out.  
Every year on my birthday he'd call and say "Hey I'm only 9 years older than you ( for about a week) he was so happy!
Mike was incredibly  worried about my 50th Birthday he hounded HIS friends until they showed up for my birthday!  They didn't have to do that but they did, because THEY loved HIM and he would have kept hounding (lol) . Thank you again for coming!! We had good times and some bad.  But the good will always overcome the bad .. Mike I miss you & love you  so very much!  

In the early days , we had tons of fun ! 1970 and up ? can’t remember exactly ! but we were out on ice on lake st clair and were dragging on rope behind Mikes GTO convertible from lance cruise to Metro beach on way back we all climbed inside but not enough room so mike put the top down & Me & Gary S. were laying on the trunk holding on Mike, Steve L. larry F. Jeff L. Tom S.and Jim ike  were inside ?? Ran into open water at 141/2 shook rd and Me and Gary rolled off into water & car was 1/2 way in !!! We got Garys car and jerked Mikes car back on ice but stoped at SAMMY’s pizzeria to dry up by pizza oven !! WHAT A DAY ! Mike’s memories will never be Forgotten ! Gods speed my Friend !

There’s to many memories to write about. I meet Michael in 1969. We rode our Harley’s together and I meet a lot of great friends through Mike. I married and moved to the west side in 1983. Unfortunately we lost touch of each other until I moved back to St Clair Shores in 2017. We picked up our relationship where we left off. Michael was witty, humorous and kind. We talked ever day always asking each other what we were cooking for dinner. I will truly miss him and never forgotten in my heart. Rest In Peace my brother until we meet again.
