Richard was born & raised in Detroit and graduated from Lakeview High School. He was proud to serve his country in the 24th Infantry Division of the Army. He was employed by the Detroit News for 38 years until his retirement in 2002 at which time he went to work for Macomb Intermediate School District working with special needs students. He was a great friend to the special needs community. Events with Special Olympics and The Autism Society were especially dear to his heart. He portrayed Santa for 40 years for various hospitals, charitable organizations, MISD Schools and was often referred to as "the real Santa". He was a selfless man who would do anything to help those in need. Richard was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing and the beauty of nature. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Richard drifted off peacefully at home to be with his loved ones and his God.
Richard is the adored husband of 50 years of Veronica; father of James (the late Dawn), Richard III, Lori Rangel and Emily (Kyle) Kinyon; grandfather of Kevin (Haley), Christian, Jonathan, Riley, Heidi, Evelyn and Hudson; great grandfather of Axton; and leaves behind many loving cousins and dearest friends. He was pre-deceased by his mother Emily, father Richard and his sister Diana.
