Words cannot express the sadness that I feel after reading of Ron's passing.  
     After moving to Frazho Road in Roseville, I saw a swing set in a backyard a few houses away from mine.  I rang the doorbell and after Mrs. Hoskey opened the door I asked her if she had any kids that could come out to play.   That's when I met Ronnie and Patty.  Ronnie and I were both seven or eight years old, and we became friends.  As we grew older we played baseball, and if we weren't doing that we would play monopoly or pinochle in the Hoskey kitchen.  Ronnie's mother would often play with us and she was always there to settle out disagreements.  She would serve us  lunches and I recall that on every Friday she would make the best pancakes that I've ever had.  On more Saturdays that I care to remember, Ronnie and I would go to his grandfather's "farm", and we would butcher chickens.  Not a fun job, but one that I've never forgotten.  I think that Ronnie  and I both learned the value of a dollar from that experience.  
     As we grew older, Ron and I both went our separate ways.  After we were both discharged from military service - Ron in the Navy, and me in the Army - we reconnected.  I recall that Ron would pick me up in his new Mustang convertible, we'd load our golf clubs in the trunk and we'd hit the links.  Ron was a lefty, and he had the worst slice that I've ever seen in my life.  He would compensate for that slice and hope that the ball would eventually land where he hoped it should be.  We weren't very good, but we had fun. 
     Ron and his family will always have a special place in my heart.  
     Hopefully, Ron and I will hit the links again and Ron's horrendous slice will turn my tears of sadness into tears from laughter.
