Sam was born on August 1, 1997 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, a son to the late Molly Carroll and Daniel Carroll, and baby brother to Tim.
Sam had the biggest heart and a kind, gentle, and humorous nature that endeared him to everyone he met. He was loyal, trusting and caring, with seemingly infinite creative capacity from a very young age. In just the fourth grade, his rainbow doodle of “Otto the Octopus” won a statewide competition, turning that drawing into a gigantic balloon in Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As an artist of all trades throughout his life, he excelled in illustration, painting, drawing, graphic design, filmmaking and more, but his passion was ultimately music.
He poured his heart and soul into his music, perfecting this craft over the last few years from a basement studio with countless collaborators, honing in on bands including FISHFLY and his unreleased project The Exit. He once said that when he was playing, the music would always quiet any racing thought or worry on his mind.
When he wasn’t writing and recording new music he was busy planning and hosting underground concerts, brushing up on his expansive film knowledge or spending time at the family cottage in Lexington, jamming around the fire. He spent much of his time with his family and loving partner Bronwyn, taking care of their Miniature Schnauzer Icarus, who they affectionately nicknamed Icky.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother Molly. He is survived by his father Danny, his brother Tim, and his partner Bronwyn. He is also survived by countless friends and family who will miss him so, so much.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Barrister Gardens, 24225 Harper Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.
