Born on December 6th, 1938 in St. Margaret’s and raised in Morell, Prince Edward Island, Donald started his teaching career in St. Peter’s, PEI. In 1968, he accepted a job at the newly opened Macdonald Cartier Memorial High School on Montreal’s south shore, where he remained until his retirement in 2002, having taught thousands of students, made countless friends and inspired generations of parents and children. During his retirement, Donald worked for McGill University for 15 years as a supervisor for student teachers, many of whom he once taught.
Throughout his life, Donald played and coached many sports, including baseball, curling, golf and hockey. As a goaltender, he played for numerous hockey teams, both in PEI and the Montreal area, and continued to play into his 80s. In 2018, he was inducted into the Canadian Over 80 Hockey Hall of Fame. Many memories were made, and stories shared, on ice, in locker rooms and during annual golf trips to Malone and PEI with close friends and teammates.
Donald was a much loved husband, an adored father, a cherished grandfather, a caring brother, wonderful uncle and a close friend to a special few. He will be missed by all.
