He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Birgit, daughter Ingrid, son John (Lina), and grandchildren Viggo, Kaya, Alexander, Elizabeth, and Axel.
Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Douglas studied Engineering Physics at Queen's University, then obtained a Ph.D. in Physics at Harvard University. For 37 years he was a Professor of Physics at McGill University, and played a key role in establishing the research field of particle physics in Canada.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 5th, 11 am, at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, Dignity Memorial, 307 Riverside Drive, Saint-Lambert, Québec.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the War Amps or to the McGill Faculty of Science.
