John D. Teevin

In loving memory of Mr John Duncan Teevin, born February 6th, 1927, will be held a service held by Reverend Andy O’Donnel on Dec 31st at 11 a.m. Visits will begin at 9 a.m. and a lunch served at noon at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, Dignity Memorial, 307 Riverside, Saint-Lambert, QC

John was born in Dearborn, Michigan to Mr Edwin Reeder Teevin and Mrs Viola (Olie) Fistler Teevin and had two siblings, Marjorie WilheminaTeevin MacDonough and James Edwin Teevin. He is mourned by his nieces, Sally Teevin Coughlin, her husband Mike Coughlin and Jane Teevin Gilroy and her husband, Kevin Gilroy, as well as all their children and grandchildren Kessler Francis Dupont Teevin (Allison Martín).

After studying at Fordson High School, John studied at Wayne State University. After serving in the US Army for 18 months, he was honourably discharged and resumed studying at Wayne State for his love of trumpet and music, completing his Bachelor’s in music education then a Master’s Degree.

He met then married Mrs Claudette Denis (Denys)on July 28th, 1962, a classical pianist, and raised two children, Nathalie and Jerome Teevin. Always a devoted father, he attended parent/ teacher meetings, helped with teaching, homework, how to garden, cook, and eat well for his children.

John and Claudette met in Quebec city while playing for the Quebec Symphony Orchestra and moved to the Montreal area in 1963 where the family lived in Saint Luc. John taught English at the CÉGEP de St.Jean for many years and was a respected professor.

John’s love of music and jazz led him to play with many friends. With Ted Farrant, pianist, and Sam Mussawir, guitarist, they created ‘Tangerine’ and played many music jobs and contracts together.

Our heartfelt thanks go to our friends, Gloria, Ruth, Marie-Christine, Ted, Bertha Fernandez, Christian, Tony, Louis, Gordon, Hilario Ramirez, Trudi, Raymond, Joane, Philippe Saïd, Daphnée, Lisa and more friends, as well as to the funeral home director, Marc, for his help.

Here is a man who stood up for his principles and if he had to swim against the current, he did. Rest in peace, In God We Trust.

John est né à Dearborn, au Michigan de M Edwin Reeder Teevin et Mme Viola (Olie) Fistler Teevin et avait une sœur, Marjorie WilheminaTeevin MacDonough and James Edwin Teevin. Il est pleuré par ses nièces, Sally Teevin Coughlin, son mari, Mike Coughlin et Jane Teevin Gilroy et son mari, Kevin Gilroy, ainsi que tous leurs enfants et petits-enfants : Kessler Francis Dupont Teevin (Allison Martín).

Après avoir étudié à l’école secondaire Fordson, John a étudié à Wayne State University. Après avoir servi dans l’armée Américaine pour 18 mois, il a reçu son congé honorable et a repris ses études à Wayne State University par amour de la trompette et de la musique, obtenant son Baccalauréat en éducation musicale et ensuite sa Maîtrise.

Il a rencontré et marié Mme Claudette Denis (Denys) le 28 juillet, 1962, une pianiste classique, et fondé une famille avec deux enfants, Nathalie et Jérôme. Toujours un père dévoué, il a assisté aux réunions parents/enfants, aidé avec l’éducation, les devoirs, montrait comment jardiner, cuisiner et manger sainement à ses enfants.

John et Claudette se sont rencontré à la ville de Québec par l’entremise de l’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec et sont déménagés à la région de Montréal en 1963 où la famille a vécu à Saint Luc. John a enseigné l’anglais au CÉGEP de St. Jean pendant beaucoup d’années et était un professeur respecté.

Son amour pour la musique et le jazz l’ont amené à jouer avec beaucoup d’amis. Avec Ted Farrant, pianiste, et Sam Mussawir, guitariste, ils ont créé ‘Tangerine’ et ont joué beaucoup de contracts ensemble.

Nos remerciements du cœur vont à nos amis, Gloria, Ruth, Marie-Christine, Ted, Bertha Fernandez, Christian, Tony, Louis, Gordon, Hilario Ramirez, Trudi, Raymond, Joane, Philippe Saïd, Daphnée, Lisa et d’autres amis, ainsi qu’au directeur de la maison funéraire, Marc, pour son aide.

Voici un homme qui se tenait debout pour ses principes et s’il devait nager à contre-courant, il le faisait. Repose en Paix, Nous avons Confiance en Dieu.
