Ronnie passed away peacefully on December 3rd at the age of 93. Born in Donegal, Ireland, she was forever proud of her Irish roots and history. She loved to recite Irish poetry and recount stories of growing up in Selacis, her childhood homestead. In her late teens, her wanderlust led her to start a new life across the pond. She immigrated first to the United States, living for a few years in Philadelphia and New York before settling in Montreal and marrying her husband Tom. They started their family in Rosemont and, soon after, set down roots in Boucherville, which they would call home for over fifty years. There they developed lifelong bonds around family, church and community.
She worked for many years at the Diocesan Book Room, where she was well served by her deep interest and knowledge of religion and literature. She was an active member of Holy Cross Parish since its founding sixty years ago, and devoted many years to the Ladies’ Guild.
Ronnie was happiest when surrounded by her loving family and friends. She loved welcoming people into her home, whether for a Sunday roast or an impromptu drop-in for tea. As the years advanced and the clan grew, those family get togethers became even more precious, as she cherished moments with her grandchildren and the opportunity to spoil them.
Predeceased by her husband Thomas and her daughter Lucy (Phil). She leaves to mourn her children Moira (Stephen), Cathy (Arthur), John (Kelly), Patrick (Julie) and Michael (Tasia) as well as her sister Rita Gibbons, her 13 grandchildren, 3 great grand children and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to her devoted caregivers Theresa and Bernadine, as well as the kind and compassionate care that she received at CHSLD St-Georges.
