Charlotte Elsie Hoffman (nee Kempen) of Saint Louis, MO, daughter of the late Albert and Rose Kempen, passed away April 26, 2022 at the age of 74. Charlotte is survived by her husband Jim of 24 years, daughter Angela (Nick) Sawall, stepson Jayson Hoffman and grandchildren, Benjamin, Mia and Tyler.
Charlotte was the oldest of her five brothers and sisters, Albert, Robert, Milton, Sandra and Kristene, each whom she loved very much. She was happiest in the company of those she loved including her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Staying in touch and being present with all family members was important to Charlotte. She rarely missed a family wedding, baby shower, birthday party or funeral.
In her early years, you could find a naturally athletic Charlotte at Pontiac Park participating in all the neighborhood sports. She held her own with all the boys. As an adult she enjoyed slow pitch softball and was an excellent bowler. She was on numerous competitive bowling leagues and participated and won many tournaments through the years. She was a member of the St. Charles WBA and the National WIBC. Charlotte also loved music and loved to dance. She and her husband, Jim, and daughter were long-time members of the Southside Imperial Swing Dance club.
There is no greater bond than one between a mother and daughter. Charlotte taught Angie to appreciate music, dancing, and the importance of being there for family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she showered them with love and kisses. There was no bigger cheerleader than Grandma in the stands at any of their sporting events.
She loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and vacations with her husband. They loved getaways to Branson. Charlotte was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. If she wasn’t decked out in red at Busch Stadium, she was rooting them on from anywhere that had a TV or radio.
Charlotte lovingly referred to as “Chottsie”, knew someone everywhere she went; a Cards game, wedding, a Saturday trip to Soulard Market, the bowling alley (just to name a few). She was always the life of the party, had a story to share, there for those that needed her and wasn’t afraid to tell you like it is. She had a contagious laugh, and you knew her whistle from a mile away. Charlotte was truly one of a kind. She was a friend to many, loved by all and will be missed by everyone that knew her.
