FR. CHRISTIAN ALOYSIUS JANSON, S.M. died in the service of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 14, 2024, at the age of 83 and with 64 years of vowed life. He was born into a large family of 10 brothers and three sisters in St. Louis, MO to Gregory and Emma (Groner) Janson on March 6, 1941. He is preceded in death by six siblings and survived by his sister, Patricia and six brothers, Ray, Mike, Steve, Harry, Gerry, and Dwight along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graduate of St. Mary’s H.S. and Maryhurst Prep., he entered the Marianist Novitiate in Galesville, Wisconsin and professed his First Vows on September 5, 1960. He earned his BA in English in 1963 from St. Mary University in San Antonio, and two Masters Degrees from St. Louis University. Fr. Chris was ordained to the priesthood on January 20, 1973 at Our Lady of the Pillar Church in St. Louis.
In sixty-three years of service, Fr. Chris has served as a teacher, a vocation director, a missionary in Mexico and as pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in San Antonio from 2007 to 2017. In every ministry and with all people, he exemplified God’s great love and compassion with an open heart, warm smile, and his charismatic Marianist family spirit.
SERVICES: Visitation begins at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Chapel of St. John Vianney H. S., 1311 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122, on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Interment will be in the Maryhurst Cemetery followed by a reception at the Vianney Cafe, all on the grounds of St. John Vianney.
