Frala was born on January 15, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Florence Feigenbaum and Harry Schachter. She graduated from University City High School in 1951, beginning a life defined by adventure, resilience, and devotion to family.
Frala was previously married to the late Arnold Brown and, on September 4, 1989, married the love of her later years, Aaron Osherow, with whom she shared a deep bond and a love of travel, dining, and new experiences. Aaron devotedly cared for Frala, and she adored him deeply.
Frala enjoyed a successful professional career, working for 18 years as a financial controller, during a time when women were true trailblazers in the workplace. She balanced her career while raising her family and keeping them close.
She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to family. Frala loved spending time with her grandchildren—whether going to toy stores or out on special international outings. She cherished enjoying meals with her family and delighted in travel, including meaningful time spent in San Diego.
Frala had many passions, including reading mystery and detective novels, playing cards and games—especially canasta, bridge, and mahjong—and embracing new experiences. Plants thrived while under her green thumb. And she loved good food, good company, and making memories with those she loved.
Frala is survived by her husband, Aaron Osherow; her children Lorri (George) Ominsky, Cathy (Bob) Goldsticker, and Holly Balk (Brad Balk); and her step-children the late Neal Osherow, Ruthellen Osherow, and Bill (Vicki) Osherow.
She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Frala’s devoted caregivers for their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care.
There will be a funeral service at Congregation Temple Israel at 10:00 am on Monday, February 2 with no visitation prior. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery.
Frala lived with multiple sclerosis for 35 years, facing its challenges with strength and perseverance. For that reason, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the The Frala Osherow Fund (funding local MS research). Checks can be made out to “WashU Medicine” listing “Osherow Fund” in the memo line, and mailed to:
WashU Medicine, MSC 1082-414-2555, 7425 Forsyth Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63105-2161.
Frala will be remembered as a strong, loving woman who kept her family at the center of her life, whose warmth brought people together, and whose kindness and generosity left a lasting legacy.
