Gloria was born in St. Louis on September 7, 1926, to the late Louis Amighetti and Mary Miriani, the original owners of Amighetti Bakery. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Shackelford Sr., and a dear sister to the late Louis Amighetti (Junior) and Rita Amighetti.
Gloria was a loving mother to Charlotte Stahl, Chuck (Debbie) Shackelford, and Michael (Barb) Shackelford. She was a proud grandmother to Brent (Christy), Jason (Amanda) Morelan, Samantha (Brian) Turek, C.J. Shackelford, Sam (Dana), Jake (Mandy), and Luke Shackelford, and a cherished great-grandmother to Chandler, Caitlyn, and Deacon Morelan, Abigail Layton, Jameson and Walker Turek, Theresa, Joseph and John Paul Shackelford, Gianna, Louis and Vincent Shackelford.
She was one of the kindest people, with a natural way of making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. Her compassion was simply who she was, and she treated everyone with warmth and kindness.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending to her garden and picking tomatoes with her grandkids, relaxing with her favorite shows on Netflix, playing aggravation, and treating herself to chocolate ice cream. She enjoyed baking and made the best Christmas cookies and birthday cakes, which infamously became known as Grandma Glo cakes. Those simple things were what she loved most, especially when they were shared with family.
Family meant everything to her, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and loved ones. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and a sense of togetherness that will be deeply missed.
What we will always remember most about her is her spirit. She was compassionate, honest, and genuinely good in a way that made the world around her better. She lived with quiet strength and grace, and she showed us all what it means to be a truly beautiful person.
In honoring her life, we carry forward her kindness, her generosity, and the love she so freely gave to others.
