Harvey L. Whitman Sr.

Born on April 8, 1948, in St. Louis, Harvey was the son of Mary J. “Pat” Whitman and Harold George Whitman. He grew up in the close-knit community of “The Hill” and attended St. Ambrose Elementary School before graduating from Bishop DuBourg High School. In 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction.

During his service, Harvey earned numerous commendations, including the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and returned home to St. Louis, where he married Kathleen M. Delaney.

Harvey is survived by his former wife, Kathleen, and his loving children: Harvey Jr. (Becki), Eric (Mary) Whitman, Sara Carron, and Lori (Tom) Freesmeier. He was a proud grandfather ("Nanu") to Hailey Marie, Kyle Thomas, Seth Robert, Megan Rachelle, Mallory Irene, and Delaney Emma, as well as step-grandchildren Sidney (Travis), Josh (Brynlee), and Nathan. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ophelia.

Harvey's extended family included many beloved cousins and, of course, his cherished pets. His love for animals was unwavering, and in his honor, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Animal Protective Association (APA) at 1705 S. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7th, from 9-10am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 5130 Wilson Ave. St. Louis, MO 63110. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am. Rite of Committal will immediately follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be bestowed.

Harvey will be remembered for his unwavering strength, deep love for his family, and enduring loyalty to those he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him
