John Kassay, aged 74, passed away on October 28, 2025. Beloved husband of the late Sharon (nee Miller) Kassay; loving father of Jeanette Kassay and Jamie (Michael) Heineck; dear grandfather of Reily Kassay, Christian Kassay, and Kaleb Barry; dear brother of Jean (Ed) Kamrada, Michael (Gloria) Kassay, Shirley (the late Dennis) Singleton, Mary DeVite, Ann Connors, and the late Darlin (Hobert) Tackett; dear brother-in-law of Sandra (the late Richard) Manente; dear son of the late John & Theresa (nee Ferris) Kassay; our dear cousin, uncle, and friend.
John Kassay was born on August 29th, 1951 in Cleveland, OH to the late John & Theresa Kassay. He was one of seven siblings and grew up surrounded by a large family. He graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School and went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force where he became a Sergeant. After being honorably discharged due to injuries from a plane crash, he attended and graduated from Niagara University, where he went on to have a long career in management in the manufacturing industry.
He was married to his late wife, Sharon for 33 years before her passing in 2006. His daughters, Jeanette and Jamie, were extremely proud of his tenacity, drive, and push to achieve not only his own goals, but theirs as well. To his grandchildren, Reily, Kaleb, and Christian, he was known as “papa,” and one of the best.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, and immensely enjoyed fastpitch softball. There was not a Friday night that the Kassay household was not filled with his softball girls. From coaching on the field to teaching pitching lessons off the field, it was one of his favorite things to do. Throughout the years he enjoyed playing cards and various games with friends and family, right up until the end. He was passionate about all things sports and favored the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a great friend to many and always ready for a conversation.
John, or known by many as Nonny, will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Although, he is no longer with us, his light, love, and presence will live on in the hearts of all that were blessed to cross paths with him.
