Joyce Ann Koerner, age 74, of St. Louis County, passed away July 6, 2017, after a short illness. She is the beloved wife of Paul G. Koerner, who survives. They were married in St. Louis on November 6, 1971. Joyce was born October 14, 1942, in Pleasant Hill, Ill., a daughter of Clifford Irving and Clydene nee Moyer Emert. She is also survived by sons Stephen P. and Alan P Koerner; grandchildren Ezra Koerner and Aubri Konrath; many nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews; brothers Clifford, Roy, Lloyd and Billy Emert, and sisters Louise Lawless and Anna M. Walker. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Donald and Ed Emert.
For 53 years Joyce dedicated her life to the service of others as a registered nurse. The past 35 years were devoted to veterans at Jefferson Barracks and most recently -- up until three weeks before her passing -- at John Cochran Veterans Hospital. Joyce was proud to serve her veteran patients and loved her job.
She was equally dedicated to, and loved, her close-knit family and enjoyed having them gathered together to tell stories, share the latest news and enjoy a meal together. Joyce not only collected many recipes but she enjoyed cooking them all. Two standouts are her pumpkin rolls and coffee pot roast.
Family, friends, colleagues and those whose life she touched are invited to a visitation from 4-7 pm, Monday, July 10, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, Mo. and from 9 am until the funeral service at 10 am Tuesday, July 11. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
