Joyce Marion Wolf, died March 24, 2018, was born in St. Louis, Oct. 4, 1925, the only child of Paul Gerhardt Tirmenstein and Hulda Schulz Tirmenstein. She is the great-great-granddaughter of German immigrants who came to the USA seeking religious freedom and a better life. That group founded what is now named The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
While she was still a child, her father saw hard times coming, and moved the family to a farm in the Randolph County Illinois Community of Houston. The family and young Joyce raised their own crops and livestock, rebuilt the rundown farm, and lived well during The Great Depression. Years later, as the nation recovered, the hardships waned and World War II approached, the family returned to St. Louis.
Joyce graduated from Ritenour High School in 1944. She enrolled in Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois, where she met fellow student Richard Hirsch, a US Marine Corps World War II veteran from Chicago. The couple married in 1947, and had two sons born in St. Louis. She worked in a store, a doctor's office, and the Missouri Division of Employment Security, where she retired in 1987.
She was predeceased by husbands Richard Hirsch (1990) and Lloyd Wolf (2011).
Survivors are son Michael Hirsch (Susan) of Webster Groves, and Tom Hirsch of Winter Park, Florida; granddaughters Sarah Megahan (Sean) of St. Louis, Paris Boyd (Austin) of Brooklyn Park, Maryland, and Molly Hirsch of St. Louis. Great-grandson Dylan Boyd of Brooklyn Park, Maryland. She also has many cousins across the USA.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in South St. Louis County.
She is dearly missed and remembered as a loving, faithful wife, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and to many others as a thoughtful, supportive friend, who was involved in the ministries of the churches she attended.
Her family sincerely thanks St. Anthony's Hospital, Delmar Gardens, and Laclede Groves for the care they provided to her.
Visitation Wed., March 28, from 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Mortuary, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd., and 9am Thursday, March 29, at Peace Lutheran Church, 737 Barracksview Road. Funeral at 10am Thursday at Peace Lutheran, followed by procession to Our Redeemer Cemetery for burial.
