

Leonard is survived by his beloved wife, Denise T. (nee Ziegler) Griggs, along with his loving daughters, Margaret Roslyn Griggs, Virginia Laraine Griggs, and Julia Blair Griggs, and a stepdaughter, Deborah Branham. He was a cherished grandfather to Renee (Jordan), Lenny, Rebecca, Lyndsey, Alex, and one great-grandchild, Fisher.
Leonard was a distinguished individual who navigated a life of profound accomplishment and service. Leonard’s journey began with unwavering dedication to his country, as a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and serving twenty-three years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1977.
A lifelong learner, Leonard’s pursuit of knowledge led him to earn several degrees, a testament to his intellectual curiosity and commitment to excellence. His diverse talents and leadership qualities paved the way for a remarkable civilian career, culminating in his role as the Director of the St. Louis Lambert Airport.
While Leonard achieved professional success, his heart belonged to his family. His enduring love for his wife, with whom he shared over forty years of companionship, reflected a commitment that went beyond duty or titles. Leonard’s legacy is etched in the lives he touched through his military service, professional achievements, and the love he poured into his family and for his country.
As we bid farewell to a man of integrity and honor, let us celebrate Leonard’s rich and impactful life, a life that served as an inspiration to many and left an indelible mark on the tapestry of those fortunate enough to have known him.
A memorial gathering for Leonard will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kriegshauser Mortuary-West Chapel, 9450 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132, followed by a Memorial service at 12:00 PM, at the same location. Leonard will be laid to rest following the service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, with Full Military Honors.
