Hallie “Louise” Dicus was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend during her incredible 89 years of life. She passed away peacefully at 9:17am on January 17, 2025 in St.Louis, MO. Louise was born in St. Louis, MO on August 24, 1935 to Gearl and Grafton Hopkins. Louise is survived by her two sisters, Janette Spiess and husband Donald of Park Hills, MO, Kathy Kinder of Bloomsdale, MO; two sons, Billy Dicus and Jack Hopkins, both of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Diana “Lynn” Barnett and husband Michael of French Village, MO; granddaughters’, Kathy Cook of St.Louis, MO, Karen Weaver of Nixa, MO and Torrie Hopkins of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Louise was the biological mother of three children. However, many people considered Louise their surrogate mother. She cared deeply and would always lend a hand for her family, friends and neighbors, and even several homeless over the years. She didn’t do this out of obligation, but because of who she was.
She had a huge love for Jesus; she would pray and sing every day, and shared the word any chance she had. After working a couple of jobs in her younger life, she decided to go a different route to make a living - finding the best bargains (anything from clothing, antiques or real estate) and a way to turn them into a profit. She taught her kids and grandkids the ins and outs of the thrifting and yard sale world. She had an equal love for Branson, MO and everything about it. She wrote numerous songs and her dream was to get them into a Branson show one day. Louise always had a spunky sense of humor and loved to laugh and tell jokes. She never met a stranger and would tell everyone “come back and see me!”
Louise was preceded in death by her unnamed baby boy Dicus; her parents, Gearl and Grafton Hopkins; her sister Alta Mae Hopkins; Brother-in-Law, Wayne Kinder; and lifelong friend, Robert “Bob” Shelton.
A visitation for Louise will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. Condolences for the Dicus family may be offered at www.hoffmeistersouthcounty.com
