

Margaret Mary “Marge” Mathis, age 77, of St. Louis County, was fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Sept. 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She is the wife of Donald D. Mathis, who survives. They were married July 11, 1987. Marge served her community for 38 years as a teacher at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School, teaching kindergarten and second grade. She also was a substitute teacher for a time at Queen of All Saints School. Marge was a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Home League and volunteered at Nazareth Living Center.
She is also survived by children Kathy Burford, Mark (Karen) Whitaker, Laura Needham, step-sons Lloyd and Shawn Mathis; grandchildren Julie (Bill) Cushman, Elizabeth Whitaker (Joshua Sutter), Emily and Craig Whitaker and Austin and Alyssa Needham; great-granddaughter Brooklyn Sutter; sister of John Ewertz, Geraldine Ewertz and Juanita Bartz; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson Brian Burford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, Saturday, September 17, at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 6603 Christopher Drive, St. Louis, Mo. 63129. Interment to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-8 pm Friday, September 16, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Mo. 63125. Memorials suggested to American Cancer Society or de Greeff Hospice House.
