In much loving memory for Al, Melba, Kenny and Anita.   Melba was like a second mother to me.  When I was a child, my mother Geneda did not have enough money to send me to summer camp at Epworth Among the Hills.   Melba helped me get to summer camp.   I no longer live in St. Louis and around 2015 was visiting STL and driving by Mellow Methodist Church on a Sunday around noon.  The church doors were open so I stopped and went inside.  Melba was working the food depository, and she immediately recognized me.  What a wonderful reunion that was.   We talked at length and I told her one day she would see Kenny and Al again.  That made her feel so good.  We also  lost our mother in July of 2022  at age 89.   So many fond memories of my early years at Mellow Methodist.   My condolences, Anita. I knew Melba through our bowling league. She was one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever met, but she could be mischievous too, joking with a twinkle in her eye and a big smile. I send my condolences to her family, and wish them the comfort of sweet memories.

Melba had a heart to serve! Haven Street at The Connection served a meal every Monday night at 6 pm to the homeless and 
our neighbors in need. She was always the first one there and the last to leave, she touched so many people with her love, generosity and homemade desserts. One of our regular volunteers was a wounded Iraq war vet that had a problem with alcohol,  he really looked up to her and she held him accountable. He was a history buff and loved talking to Melba about her life and she always had a story to share with him. I know he came back every week to hear those stories. She didn't know a stranger. 

She loved to go “Home”, if just to make sure the windows were latched  or bird feeders  were full!

Staff at EverLove DayClub wish to extend our deepest condolences for your loss. Melba was a great lady who was always smiling and joking.  Activity Director Stephanie and Melba used to tease each other with a “You’re alright, I don’t care what anyone else says.” 

Thank you for sharing your mother with us and we will remember her fondly. 

WHAT A SPECIAL LADY!!!!  She loved the Lord, her church and her family. She was always there to help you in whatever way she felt you needed her.  No matter what it cost her in time or money.  Some of my family's happiest times are spent going to the LaBrot family reunion every year in October. We all loved being  with her and  the family at Grandma's house.  She always wanted everyone to enjoy the freedom of being  at her home birthplace in the country where the kids could run and play and be as loud as they wanted too and could also get soaking wet in the creek.  She had a special little name for one of us that would mess  up or do something  crazy or funny.   (Each family member knows exactly what I am talking about)  She would referred to that one as "That Little Sweet" Ha Ha!!!! I pray that when I leave this world and go home to be with my Lord that my family can look back on my life and have the caring,  loving and happy memories that this precious lady has left for her family.
