He was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the late Robert F. McDaniels and Maxine M. McDaniels (nee Newman), who preceded him in death.
Michael is survived by his loving life partner of nearly 38 years, JoAnn Hall, whom he met on April 1, 1988—Good Friday—a day that marked the beginning of a lifelong love and companionship. He is also survived by his cherished siblings, Kelly McDaniels, Jill McDaniels, Joy Banahan (Rick), and Pat McDaniels (Sandra). He leaves behind his devoted canine companion, Gumbo, along with the many beloved dogs he proudly called his own over the years: Jake, Kodie, Dillon, Cassidy, Drayko, and Nellie.
Michael was a simple man who found his greatest joy in life’s quiet moments. He was a homebody at heart, content in the comfort of home and the company of those he loved most. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, carrying that sense of pride and dedication with him throughout his life.
He had a passion for fishing and treasured the peace and patience it brought him. For nearly 15 years, Michael would sweep JoAnn away for a little getaway to the “West Nest.” Michael was also a loyal and familiar face at Colombo’s, where he remained a devoted patron for around 50 years, forming friendships and memories that spanned decades.
Above all, Michael will be remembered for his loyalty, his steady presence, and the deep love he shared with his family and JoAnn. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Committal Service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, located at 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125, on April 1, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
