Memorial services for beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dr. Robert Stanley Cameron McKnight will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 4501 Westminster Place, 63108, on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00am.
Dr. McKnight, 79, passed away November 29 in St Louis, Missouri after a period of declining health. Born September 13, 1936 in Norfolk, Virginia to Rev. James M. McKnight and Mary G. C. (Phillips) McKnight, he attended Florida State University from 1954-1957 and graduated Washington University Medical School in 1961 and served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1968. He taught at Washington University Medical School and was a cardiac radiologist at Barnes Hospital for many years before his retirement in 2003.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious giant laugh and was quite the practical joker, while at the same time was a dedicated doctor and educator who always pushed himself and his students to know more and do better for the critically ill people needing his care each day. He was an intelligent, generous, gifted individual who loved classical music, art, grandchildren, cats, trains and apple pie equally well. He was always willing to make himself available to check sore throats and ears or field medical questions for family, friends and neighbors
He will be sorely missed by surviving family, his wife Emily E. (Cousson) McKnight, daughters Elizabeth, Anne and Jennifer, sons-in-law Kenneth and Gerald, and grandchildren Dylan, Brigette, Natalie, Joseph, Michael, Robert, James, Elise, grandson-in-law In-Chang and sister-in-law Oni. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Dr. James Milton McKnight in July, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Transportation Museum at Transport Museum Association, 2967 Barrett Station Road, St. Louis, MO 63122 or to the St Louis Symphony Orchestra, Attn: Development Department, 718 North Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63103
