Preceded in death by her brother Jules Subow, parents Leon Subow, Mollye Cohen and George Cohen. She is survived by her sister Paula Subow (Barry) Weinshenker and their children.
Sharon earned a Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education at Fontbonne College and a Masters Degree from Webster University. She spent 32 years teaching deaf, hard-of-hearing and language impaired Special Education students at all levels of the St. Louis County system. After retirement, she devoted considerable resources to community involvement. Her fondest memory of this time was her volunteer work with seniors through CORP. Sharon was active in protecting animals, adopting several dogs who had been mistreated or no longer wanted by their owners and helping to find good homes for many others. She served as a focal point in the efforts to save Shih Tzu's. She will be sorely missed by her family, many friends and the community she served. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to St. Luke's Hospice and the staff and nurses of Surrey Place for their skilled and compassionate care.
Services: Graveside service Wednesday, October 6, 11:30 a.m., at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 7500 Olive Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to the Jules H. Subow Scholarship Fund, Missouri University of Science and Technology, 212 Parker Hall, Rolla, MO 65409-0940 or to an organization of the donor's choice.
