Susan Carol Rose (like the flower) passed away on the evening of Tuesday 4/12/2022. She is proceeded in death by her daughter Jacqueline Rose and survived by daughter Danielle Bristow, grandchildren Alayna Bristow, Andrew Bristow and his fiancé Sara Risker. Susan is also survived by Vicki Jarrin and Andres Jarrin.
Susan Rose was a hell of a mother and grandmother to many. She was more stubborn, and more loving, than most. She never missed an important, or dumb, event in her family’s lives- swim meets, Special Olympic gymnastics, art shows, football games – she was there for all of it. She was infamous for Friday movie and pizza nights with her grandchildren that included repeat children movie selections (National Treasure is a national treasure, don’t change my mind) or an action movie (we knew to not say the swear words after watching- thanks Die Hard). She loved travel both near and far, taking her children up the coast of California, spending summers in Europe (when she stuck her kids in Jewish sleepover camps) and road trips to Laughlin, Reno and Vegas.
Bagels and an endless supply of Sam’s club lox was always provided on Sunday mornings or whenever it was emotionally needed. Her corned beef kept granddaughter Alayna from going vegetarian. And everyone knew to bring their own Tupperware to Thanksgivings and Passovers because leftovers are just as important as a good side dish. Not asking about or having dessert wasn’t an option. Her home and her love was open to all who wanted, or needed, it. Her home in LA was the center of the universe for friends and family and the occasional rambunctious high school party.
She was beloved and infamous and larger than life to everyone who knew her– especially with her trademark wildly painted nails and ring finger nail designs. She never knew a boot she didn’t love or a puffy painted t-shirt from some vacation she went on.
Life without her will include less long texts, less leftovers, less funny stories, and less love. But it will include more gratitude, more dedicated sushi nights, and more reminders of the days when things were good.
Here’s to the knowledge that she now has the new body (Terminator style?) she always said she wanted, and is able to dance and play slot machines on loop with good friends and eat as much ice cream, bacon cheeseburgers, sashimi and powdered sugar as her heart desires.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please take your loved one(s) out to a sushi dinner and order yourself a diet Pepsi (bonus if it’s a can of caffeine free).
Okeedokee? See ya later Alligator.
