Suzanne Marie Denney (nee Dick), aged 90, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2024, in St. Louis, MO, where she had been living after previously residing in Bellevue, WA. She was the beloved wife of the late John C. Denney and the devoted mother of Diana Knapp (Stephen). Suzanne was also a loving grandmother to Lauren and Jonathan Knapp and a cherished Aunt “Sue” to Thomas (Carolyn) Dick, Michael (Linda) Dick, and Garry (Jera) Dick. She was a dear friend and former tennis partner to many. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Lily Dick, Sr, her brother Kenneth Dick, Jr, her sister-in-law Ginia Dick, and nephew Douglas Dick.
Suzanne was born and raised in Vallejo, CA, and graduated from Vallejo High School in 1951. She obtained a degree in health education from San Jose State University in 1955, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. While at college, she met her future husband, whom she married in 1961. After working at the Heart Association and the Lung Association, Suzanne left her job to stay home and raise her daughter. After John's job transfer, the family moved to Bellevue, WA, where Suzanne got involved with Welcome Wagon and made many friends. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for over 40 years.
After the death of her husband, Suzanne started a second career as an executive assistant at Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation, where she worked for 25 years before retiring. Suzanne was an avid tennis player and played mixed doubles with various groups well into her 80s. Her greatest joy was her family, and she took many fun trips with her daughter to England, Europe, Boston, Chicago, Palm Springs, and other places. After her grandchildren were born, she frequently visited St. Louis for trips to the zoo, Halloween parades, holidays, and school events. Suzanne was an accomplished pianist, and the song "Meet Me in St. Louis" always reminds us of her. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Suzanne was laid to rest on Monday, February 5th, 2024, at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Vallejo, CA. A Memorial Service is planned for 11am on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina, WA.
If you would like to make memorial donations, they may be made to the Seattle Humane Society, Seattle Children’s Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
