Sam Preston Champagne

ST. MARTINVILLE – Memorial Services will be celebrated for Sam Preston Champagne, 85, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Evangeline Funeral Home in St. Martinville. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

Visitation will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 9:00 am until service time with a rosary being prayed at 1:00 pm.

A native of Jeanerette and resident of St. Martinville, Sam passed away May 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Erath on October 26, 1931 to the late Armond and Eve Bertrand Champagne and was one of three children.

Sam was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in the simple life of country living. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going out to his camp in the Atchafalaya Basin. Sam could often be found spending at the camp with a line in the water waiting on that BIG ONE. Sam also enjoyed woodworking. He would make everything from wind chimes to bird houses. Sam was a Jack-of-all-trades that excelled at anything he put his mind to. He would put his heart and soul into every new thing he tried until it was perfected. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Sam will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, Lee Champagne and wife Aline of St. Martinville, Mary C. Bourque and husband David of Erath, and Ted Champagne of St. Martinville; grandchildren, Mary Beth Bourque Dartez, Joshua Bourque, Brock James Champagne, and Danielle Champagne; and great-grandchildren, Austin Champagne, Harper Claire Dartez, Kara Hunter, and one on the way, Mary Margret Bourque.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Myrtle Seber Champagne; parents, Armond and Eve Bertrand Champagne; and brothers, Shederick and Forest Champagne.
