Historian, Leader, Musician, Actor, Raconteur, Curious, Unpretentious,
Generous Soul, left us on February 1st 2024 at the age of 69.
Dan was born in Portsmouth VA, but lived 28 years in Minneapolis MN and lived his remaining years in Florida.
Dan was incredibly proud of his Son Coleman’s accomplishments and son and father celebrating their birthdays on the same day!
Dan was especially grateful for his career opportunities on stage and off stage as a professional Actor, Singer and Lead bass guitar player and off stage as a "Show Caller".. Along with meeting the many talented people whom he came to know on and off stage.
Dan was musically inspired by his parents Irene and Charles, and their interest in music; especially his father's talent as a Jazz Drummer.
After graduating from High School, Dan enrolled in James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Visual and Performing Arts. One of his first proudest stage memories was performing in the historical "The Lost Colony" in Roanoke No. Carolina. He later went on in his acting and musical profession acting in the musical comedy "Pump Boys and Brunettes" playing the role of "Eddie". Yet most memorable was his performance in "Fiddler on The Roof", playing the role of Motel the tailor, in Minneapolis MN. Dan's musical career included singing vocals and playing lead bass guitar in the "Chicago" Tribute band, playing for many events including the wedding of Elizabeth Taylor in 1983.
Dan's creative imagination and talent took him off stage and into the world of Events Planning for the next 30 plus years of his life. Dan began his leadership role as Manager of PSAV in Minneapolis MN, which has later become Encore Entertainment. He left PSAV to pursue a General Manager role in Orlando Florida, at CCR Solutions. But later, found that his true calling was that of a Senior Project Manager; and being the best "Show Caller" in the event planning industry. In all of Dan's roles in life his most important legacy was his leadership style. Dan believed in bringing out the very best in people, by acknowledging them for their strengths. He was intelligent, courteous, kind and considerate, just to name a few of his loving qualities.
Of all of Dan's memorable convention events and the one in which he held great esteem is that of the Moose International Conventions, which he led for 30 years. He was especially proud of the selfless members of the organization that gave their time and support to the community and notably Mooseheart, where many orphans were given an opportunity to succeed in life. He was very proud of his membership as a Mooseheart member in Illinois, and playing at the Annual Golf Event in Jacksonville Florida.
On a personal note, you wouldn't know Dan if you haven't heard his stories about his early years in the Outer Banks of No Carolina. Where he enjoyed his summers with family including aunts and uncles, especially, getting fresh crab with his uncle Arthur. His later years he enjoyed his parent’s home "Tain't Much" on the OBX, with his son Coleman and his brothers and sisters, eating crabs and Saturday night spaghetti dinner's.
For the past 2 years Dan fulfilled his dream living on his motor yacht on the St Johns River in Astor, Florida with his loving fiance Jeanette, sharing intimate moments of the heart, with their 2 cats Stella and Grace. Enjoying the Big Sky, Thunder and Lightning Storms and many Beautiful Sunrises and Sunsets.
Dan was born on September 9th 1954 in Portsmouth VA, to Catherine Irene Roberts and Charles Daniel Rollins Sr. He is survived by his loving fiance Jeanette Solak, his son Coleman A. Rollins and wife Alana, sister; Deanna (Dee) and her husband Michael Watts, and Brother Duke and wife Joan Rollins, many nieces and nephews.
Dan's greatest legacy is his true love for all humankind, his sincere thoughtfulness, true generosity, beautiful sense of humor, infectious laughter and adventuresome spirit!.
All that loved Dan will truly miss him, but we can all carry a small part of his life in our worlds, only if we are to imitate in a small way the legacy of the man named "Dan", Father, Brother, Uncle, and Husband to be.
