

Gwenda Acton Barnitz, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of August 23, 2016, in her Treasure Island home. She was born in Bryn Athyn, PA, and attended the Academy of the New Church High School. Gwenda graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in French and studied abroad in France and Algeria. Gwenda was a mother of four boys, a school teacher, and worked at the Salvador Dali Museum as coordinator of volunteers. In her later years she traveled extensively through Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central America. She was also a published novelist of the book series The Dragon Hunters, as well as having many unpublished works. She was a kind and thoughtful person to anyone she met, but was not afraid to speak her mind when the time called for it. Gwenda is survived by her four children: Jeffery, Colin, Owen, and Kevin, and her six grandchildren: Spencer, Nathan, Una, Julia, Naomi and Luke. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM am on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach. Beach Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
