With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lindsay Warren Byers, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and brother, cherished friend, and follower of Christ, on January 12th, 2025, at the age of 79. He has now been gently carried by angels to heaven.
Warren will be greatly missed by all. He was a beloved husband of Dana Byers. Loving father of Jody Byers (Sue Ellen), Blaine Byers (Pauline), Tara Powell (Matthew), Lindsay Anderson, and Kathryn Byers. Step father of Foster Sparks (Sierra). Dear grandfather of Jennifer Byers, Zachary Byers (Katilyn), Shelby Byers, Bria Powell, Ava Powell, Liam Powell, Dean Sparks, and Luke Sparks. Great grandfather of Hunter Williams, Halee Mims, Lily Mims, Jaxson Byers, and Easton Byers. Loving brother of Betty Sue Sowell (Wendell). Predeceased by his parents Lindsay and Inez Byers, his brother Robert “Bobby” Byers, and his brother-in-law Wendell Sowell. Warren will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and his work family.
Warren was born in Tampa, Florida on September 19th, 1945 to Lindsay and Inez Byers. He was one of three siblings, Betty Sue Byers Sowell and Robert Carroll Byers. Warren grew up in South Tampa, where he attended Roosevelt Elementary School and Plant High School. They were members of Palma Ceia Baptist Church. Warren knew where every citrus tree was located in his neighborhood, and often enjoyed an orange or two from his neighbors. His loving father passed away his freshman year of high school. As devastated as he was, Warren did all he could to help care for and support his family. He was a hardworking and kind man, and his dedication to his family was evident from a young age. He worked for Johnson Controls at the age of 18 doing odd end jobs. His boss was so fond of him and thought he was so personable, he moved him up to service sales manager. He truly was liked by everyone! Warren decided to start a company of his own, Air Mechanical & Service Corporation, and later Automated Building Controls. He enjoyed taking risks and was often successful. He was a faithful and generous parishioner of St. John Vianney, and attended mass weekly. He lived with Christ as his example and gave thanks to God for all of the blessings in his life. Warren was an avid fisherman and boater, loved the salt water and sunshine (he was known as the sunshine boy), enjoyed the slot machines at the casino, and always loved the company of family and friends. He was known for his infectious laugh, his compassionate heart, his ability to light up a room with his presence, and his love for all. He often said that when he dies, he will come back as a pelican because they can fish and fly. If you see a pelican, think of Warren.
“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, their light remains.”
There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a funeral mass on Saturday, January 25th at 10:00 am at St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral, 5815 5th Ave N., St. Petersburg, Florida 33710.
