Really sad to hear via the Quins of Rogers death. I have many happy memories of his time with Quins with the winning of the Middlesex sevens as a real highlight. My late husband Colin was his first captain at Quins and thought very highly of him . I met him more recently at the HOPA lunch at the RAC club in London when he was in great form

Hanne,  we are so sorry for your loss.  Roger was such a wonderful man and we know you will miss him so very much.  We will fondly remember our lunch with you in Sarasota just before he started treatment.  Please give our sympathy to  the children.  You are all in our prayers.

Roger was a true Renaissance Man, and we loved being with him  and Hanne.  I never never forgotten his answer, when I asked him his favourite place in the world......as he had travelled to so many....”any place where Hanne is”.  How lucky you two were to have found each other, and share so many wonderful memories together.  Hanne these memories will sustain you and your family , to be shared and remembered with love.   We are truly very sorry for your loss, and send our deepest condolences.xx

I first met Roger at the age of 13 after I became best friends with Candice. They lived in Brentwood. Roger and Hanne always made me feel welcome. I remember Roger taking us out in his Porsche and I was “squashed” in the back seat which Candice thought was very funny ! He came into all of their lives and changed it forever...he will be sorely missed by Hanne and all the family.  

Silent thoughts

Life moves on but memory stays...

I first met Roger more than 30 years ago, I remember so clearly when Kirsten told me that hat her mum had a new boyfriend! I remember as young teenagers when Kirsten Claire and I first met him and it was clear from the beginning what a nice man he was and of course how much he and Hanne adored each other. What a great journey the whole family have been on since then so many wonderful memories have been made. Roger has been very kind, welcoming and generous to me over the years during the many times I have been a guest in Hanne and Rogers houses both in the UK and America. I will remember Roger fondly as a snappy dresser, a smiler,a true gentleman and an amazing father to my dearest fiend Kirsten.

When we think of Roger, the one word that seems to best describe him is panache.  He wore his colorful wardrobe with an ever present smile that set every scene with an attitude that said, "I'm so happy to be with you!"  Of course, the biggest smile was for Hanne and it was obvious to all how much they adored each other.  Our heartfelt condolences to Hanne and their entire family.  There was only one Roger and we will truly miss his vibrant spirit.

I was so sorry to hear that Roger died this week. He was my first A Team Captain at Quins and gave great inspiration and encouragement to the younger players cutting their teeth with the Club. I last saw him at the Stoop in our Centenary season and was delighted to catch up with him after so many years.

Dear Candice , Hanne and family
I was so sad to hear that Roger has passed. He was always so kind to me. I remember working on a nursery for Jacob before he was born.  I was stripping (or trying to) the wall paper and having a difficult time. Your Mom and Dad stopped over for a visit.  Roger came into the nursery, saw my difficulty and stepped right in - tearing off wall paper even though he was dressed up in his Sunday best.  He paid no mind to that - just got right to work!   His generous gesture told me a lot about your Dad and his character.

My deepest sympathy to all of your family.  May you find peace in your memories and comfort in the love of your family and friends.
