Adelina “Deling” Bentulan, was born on August 15, 1928 in Maria, Siquijor, Philippines to Julian Lubguban and Sabina Agustero, passed away Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at His Divine Mercy hour of 3:24 p.m. in Sugar Land, Texas.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education and was a Grade 1 teacher in a public school in Blancia, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines until her retirement in 1989.
Her many years of public-school teaching has molded professionals in their chosen fields and remembered her as their best teacher in elementary days where they learned their reading, writing, and arithmetic where kindergarten was not yet in practice. Many became nurses, engineers, accountants, even a CEO who remembered her fondly as a stern and a very effective teacher.
She migrated to the United States after retirement and help raised the grandchildren that were born here in the United States and saw them grow and completed their chosen fields. Her influence in their early education resulted to their obtaining awards during their educational years. She has that maternal look and easy to relate to people she met where she was fondly called “Mama”, “Mader” or “Lola”.
Deling was an avid gardener even while still in the Philippines where she grew and collected orchids to bloom beautifully. She love dogs and they love her in return through their obedience and as companion and guardian when she’s left alone at home while the children and grandchildren are pursuing their daily activities.
She was deeply Catholic and has been to the beautiful and pilgrimage sites of the Holy Land, Mexico, and to European countries (Italy, Spain, France, United Kingdom). It was this Catholic Christian faith that she has passed on to her kids and her grandchildren, which is the greatest gift she has given and has modeled its pious practice.
Her life can be summarized as Faith and Education, where there is fulfillment and yet thirst to learn & understand more the beauty of His creation.
