With deep sorrow and faith in God’s promise of eternal life, we announce the passing of Alberto Velasco, affectionately known as “Jones”, on January 16, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1959, in Marinduque, Philippines.
A man of deep faith, Jones lived his life as a devoted Catholic, grounding his days in prayer, gratitude, and service. He found joy in music, often filling his home and gatherings with melodies that reflected his gentle nature. At family events, he was rarely without a camera in hand—capturing smiles, milestones, and the small, beautiful moments that might otherwise slip away. His photographs became treasured keepsakes, each one a testament to how much he cherished the people around him.
A devoted husband to loving wife Lily Isabel of 37 years, Jones built a life rooted in partnership and unwavering commitment. He took immense pride in his children - Stephanie Norzagaray (husband James), and son Derrick, both of whom brought him constant joy. Becoming a grandfather to Sandra was one of his greatest blessings, and she held a treasured place in his heart.
Jones grew up in a close-knit family and remained deeply connected to his siblings throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his father Adriano and is survived by his mother Patrocinio, and siblings Melda Accorda (husband Norman), Fred Velasco (wife Eden), Nelia Salvaleon (husband Joey); Virginia Whetstine (husband Tom) and Ariel Velasco (wife Louise), and nephews and nieces. He is also remembered with love by the family of his late brother Abel Velasco (wife Sylvia).
Jones will be remembered for his generosity, his calm and reassuring nature, and the quiet way he supported those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the many lives he touched with kindness and sincerity.
He leaves behind a profound absence, and his memory will be held close by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
A visitation will be held at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, located at 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford, on Thursday, January 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd in Sugar Land.
The Rite of Committal will follow, with a funeral procession to Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
