Barbara Ann Henley was a beautiful soul, born on April 14, 1964, in Galveston, Texas to Raul Grimaldo and Angeline Vargas. She was a loving mother, grandmother (maw maw), daughter, sister and aunt who embraced life with boundless love and devotion. Barbara completed her schooling in Galveston, Texas. Thereafter, she gave birth to her first child, Tina Jones followed by her first son, Robert Jones Sr. Years later, she met her late husband Braxton Henley Sr. who blended in his children Nikkishia, Gia, Barshonia and Brandi into their new family. Soon after, they discovered they were expecting their own little bundles of joy and decided to marry on May 24, 1983.
On August 12, 1983, they welcomed their set of twins, Braxton Jr. and Brandon. Later, they relocated to Houston, Texas and welcomed another child, Natasha. To their surprise, five years later Barbara birthed their last and most special baby, Deandrea who completed their family of ten.
Over the years, Barbara cared for her children as a homemaker who worked effortlessly to provide for her family making sure they had plenty of meals, clean clothes and a clean house to live in with lots of love and laughter. When her children extended the family with their kids, Barbara was excited to have grandchildren to continue to care for and to teach the values of everyday life. Most importantly, she taught her grandchildren what it felt like to be loved.
Later, Barbara and Braxton Sr. relocated to Denton, Texas to care for Braxton’s brother, Paul “Ricky” Hutchins Henley while he was a resident at Denton State Supported Living Center. Most weekends, they brought Paul to their home to care for him and all shared lots of love.
After the passing of Paul and Brandon in 2011, Barbara and Braxton Sr. relocated back to Houston, Texas to be closer to their kids and grandchildren. In 2017, their daughter, Deandrea passed unexpectedly. Later, it became Barbara’s responsibility to care for her husband, Braxton Sr. after he suffered from various health issues. In 2018, Braxton Sr. passed suddenly, and for the first time in her life, Barbara no longer had the obligation of caring for anybody else. Immediately after, her kids and grandchildren assisted in taking care of her by keeping her encouraged daily and ensuring she was not alone. Barbara spent lots of time with her late mother Angeline, her kids, grandkids, sisters, nephews, nieces, in-laws and her much loved and devoted, son-in laws, Avery and Quincy.
Barbara was always a believer in The Lord but later in life truly accepted Christ and grew to love Him with all her heart, soul, and mind. On December 27, 2024, The Lord called Barbara Ann home to be with Him. While we mourn the matriarch of our family who was our love, light, happiness and joy in this earthly realm, we understand that her work here is finished. We trust in the Word of Our Lord which says, “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God (again).” Matthew 5:8 NLT
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Braxton Henley Sr; son Brandon; daughter Deandrea; father Raul Grimaldo; mother Angeline Vargas; brothers James Jones Sr; Stephen Grimaldo and granddaughter, Braxton Rosie Minor.
