Brenda Joyce Taylor was born on April 9, 1952 in New Orleans LA. She was the youngest daughter of Burchmon and Morell Taylor. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1965, and it was here that she spent the majority of her life. She graduated from Washington High School in LA and earned a certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She spent most of her career working with sick and abused children as well as mentally and physically challenged adults. She began working for the County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services in the early 80s and retired in 2004.
Brenda left California in 2007 to begin a new adventure in Richmond, TX. Although retired, she remained busy cooking for her family and new friends, talking daily to relatives in Los Angeles, and spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Brazos Dialysis Center where she found a new circle of friends who became like family for her.
Brenda was a devoted friend and colleague, known to many as “Momma Brenda” for her kindness and generosity. She enjoyed nothing better than cooking and hosting family and friends in her home whenever possible. She would sit back and smile as she watched people enjoy the food and festivities. Her family, especially her grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Granny”, were the focus and joy of her life.
She is predeceased by her parents Burchmon and Morell Taylor; her sister, Barbara Jean Ivory; and nephew, William Don Mopkins Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharnee’ (Corey) Houston Parker; her sons, Damion Anthony Sneed and Brandon Antonio Taylor; her grandchildren, Camryn C. Parker, Dametri Taylor, Amir D. Sneed, Brenae’ C. Sneed, and Brendan D. Parker; and her sister Patricia Taylor-Mopkins. She also leaves her beloved nieces and great-nephews; their spouses; family and friends.
Brenda loved life and she loved God. We are comforted by the fact that she is now in a world that knows no pain. But our hearts will be forever broken by our loss.
