Eileen was born Eileen Marie Hubbell on January 6, 1926, to Wilbert Imgard Hubbell and Leah Margaret Hubbell in Cleveland, Ohio. When she was sixteen, her father was recalled back into the Army – a year before Pearl Harbor. Eileen spent most of her time at bases in Texas. Eileen attended four high schools in a two-year period, finally graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio. After receiving her nursing degree in San Antonio, Eileen enlisted in the United States Navy and spent World War II in Long Beach, California.
In 1948, Eileen met Felix Motlow Shaw Mangham, an Air Force pilot in San Antonio on an arranged date by Felix’s mother.
Eileen resigned her commission to be married to Felix on May 21, 1949, and became an Air Force wife. She traveled to many places including Bermuda. Eileen went on to have three children, Frank, Virginia, and Brian.
In 1985, Eileen and Felix retired to Monument, Colorado where Eileen was actively involved in the community and at Monument Presbyterian Church, where she attended. She volunteered with Trilakes Cares for 18 years, was Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade in Monument, Colorado, and even voted woman of the year when she received the “Service to Mankind” award from the Sertoma Club. In later years, Eileen moved to New Mexico and a few places in Texas before settling in Houston.
