

Emma was born in Houston in 1930 to Jose and Felipa Guerra during the Great Depression. As children, she and her sisters would put on plays to entertain the neighbors and pass the time. Emma attended Deady Middle School and Milby High School. She then attended nursing school and worked at St. Joseph and Methodist Hospitals. She finished her nursing career at the Colon and Rectal Center where she worked for 23 years.
Emma was a devoted mother to Cindy Garza, Jesse Serna and David Serna. Her children were her pride and joy. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided. She would rush home daily after working all day to cook a hot meal for them.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Armando Serna. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Guerra, and her four sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her three children, Cindy, Jesse and David. She is also survived by her cousin Max Castillo, sisters-in-law Gloria Quintana and Oralia Garcia, and countless nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home,12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. also in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford, where Bishop Ramirez is to officiate.
The committal service will follow, via funeral procession to Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston.
