

Ethel Sumter Martin “Mart” Henderson passed away March 23, 2019 in Sugar Land, TX. She was known as Mart by family and friends as she was growing up. Ethel was born April 17, 1922 in Keego Rt 2 Brewton, Alabama. She was the only child of John Morey Martin and Ethel Augusta Martin. Ethel married George Jackson Henderson on December 24, 1941. They moved to Texas in 1947 where she lived the rest of her life. Ethel is survived by their 5 children, George Jackson Henderson, Jr and his wife Sandra Anderson Henderson, Morey Martin Henderson and his wife Linda Mackall Henderson, Ronald David Henderson, Sharon Kay Henderson Lippe and her husband Daniel Lippe and William Douglas Henderson and his wife Nancy Lura Henderson. Ethel had 10 grandchildren: Stephen Henderson, Robin Henderson Sherrill and her husband Kris, Martin Henderson and his wife Meaghan, Robert Henderson, George Henderson and his wife Rachel, Erica Henderson Hall and her husband Tyree, Caitlin Lippe Sansing and her husband Greg, and Lisa Lippe Armstrong and her husband Brian, Leslie Mackall, Donna Mackall Toto and her husband Scott and 10 great grandchildren: Randy Henderson, Ian and Rachel Sherrill, Julian, Lola, August, and Shep Henderson, Harvey Henderson, Lilly Sansing and Sawyer Hall. She is preceded in death by her husband George Jackson, daughter-in-law Debbie Henderson and great grandson Joshua Mackall. Ethel loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was proud of their achievement and was happiest when she could spend time with them.
Ethel worked for many years in retail sales and retired from Foley’s in Sharpstown, TX in 1987. Ethel was honored with the Million Dollar Sales Award in multiple years. . Ethel loved the beach and the annual family trip to Navarre. She loved to fish and did not care what size the fish were. She hated lizards and snakes and would call one of her sons when a lizard would get in the house.
Ethel lived the last two year at Atria Assisted Living in Sugar Land. She enjoyed the fellowship and the programs offered especially the music programs. But her very favorite Atria activity was the organized fishing trip to Lake Jackson.
To know Ethel was to love Ethel. She was a quiet soul.
The will be a visitation with family on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5 PM to
8 PM at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S Kirkwood Rd, Stafford, TX 77477. Ethel will return to Alabama and rest beside her husband at the Green Acres Memorial Cemetery in Brewton, Alabama.
