On January 31, 2026, Janet Elaine Murray quietly passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unforgettable style. She was born on January 4, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the eldest of four children born to the late Allen Edward Jenkins and Alzelia Vivian Jenkins. Affectionately known as “Jan,” Janet was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1962. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. In 2007, she became a devoted member of Higher Dimension Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Eagles-H Group.
Janet later relocated to Houston, Texas, where she began a new chapter in life. There, she met Clarence T. Murray, and the two were united in marriage on August 14, 1976. From this loving union, one beautiful daughter was born, Jada Elaine Murray.
Professionally, Janet worked for a period of time at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia as an Administrative Assistant. After settling in Houston, she continued her career with the City of Houston, Municipal Court, where she served as a Senior Clerk. Janet was affectionately loved by all who knew and worked with her. Truly, to know her was to love her.
Janet was a true “fly girl,” always embracing the latest and greatest trends. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, listening to music, shopping, visiting casinos, and watching sports. She was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan—now known as the Washington Commanders. Janet also loved entertaining family and friends and was known for making her signature cocktails, creating moments filled with laughter and joy. She also had a GreenThumb, taking great pride in her flowers and plants.
Janet leaves to cherish her precious one and only daughter, Jada Elaine Ferguson, and her beloved grandchild, Brendin Ferguson. She is also survived by her three sisters, Cheryl Harper, Sharon Jenkins, and Andrea Dixon; her three brothers-in-law, David Harper, Sr., Ricky Baker, and Gerald Dixon; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Houston, Texas.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S. Kirkwood Road in Stafford.
Repast immediately following the service.
