

John Micheal Szabo, 70, of Sugar Land, TX went to live with his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2017. He was born on Aug 13, 1946 in Newark, New Jersey to John Joseph and Agnes Schwartz Szabo. With his loving wife Terri Fitzgerald Szabo of 34 years by his side, he passed away at Kindred Hospital in Sugar Land after a short term illness.
John graduated from East Side High School in Newark, New Jersey and after a short time in college, served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the Charles F. Adams, a guided missile destroyer. After completing his military service, he attended and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. John was first employed in New Jersey by Shell Oil Company and transferred to Houston in 1972. After 18 years of employment with Shell, he went to work for the Allstate Insurance Company in Houston. John owned and operated his own agency in downtown Houston as an Exclusive Agent for 26 rewarding years. He was an founding member of the Saint Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was an avid sports fan. He relished playing golf with his friends on Saturday mornings, and had an unwavering passion for the Yankees, Astros, Texans and, of course, his New York Giants. He was a huge music enthusiast. From his teenage years until joining the Navy, John played lead guitar and the organ in a rock-n-roll band. He was always up for a fun time on a casino trip, but his latest passion was spending and enjoying time with his two grandsons.
John was proceeded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Terri Fitzgerald Szabo, of Sugar Land, daughter, Resa Szabo Cornutt, husband Chris and grandsons, Connor and Jacob all of Frisco, TX. His father and mother in law, Charles and Esther Fitzgerald of Lane City, TX, sister in laws, Becky Wyatt of Knoxville, TN, Patti Foyt of Tarkington, TX, Gayle Lechler of Brenham, TX, and Amy Fitzgerald of Wharton, TX. Brother in law, Alan Fitzgerald and wife Debbie of Lane City, TX, along with numerous nieces and nephews. John is also survived by close cousins in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and California.
