Gene Ezzell, 51, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Gene is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughter, Alicia; his son, Robert; his mother, Faye Carmichael; his father, Marvin Ezzell; his brother, Rick Ezzell and two sisters, Elaine Stuart and Ellen Hill; along with several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. Ezzell, a North Carolina native who came to Houston in 1983, was a loving, and caring husband to Ann and father to Alicia and Robert; and also a friend to many. He was devoted to God, his family and his many friends in the Houston area. Ezzell owned and operated Houston Automotive, where so many customers became his friends over the last two decades. He was at home under a hood, cooking his famous chicken wings or sitting in front of his large-screen TV watching the Tennessee Titans and NASCAR. Ezzell was a die-hard Oilers fan whose allegiance remained with the Titans after they moved to Tennessee. He was also passionate about NASCAR and the late Dale Earnhardt. Known for his dry sense of humor, Ezzell was quick with a quip and loved a good joke. He was a good listener who always had a warm smile and a firm handshake. His handshake was his bond. The wake will be held at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home off 59 and Kirkwood on Thursday September 30, 2010, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday October 1, 2010, at 11:00am at Oak Lake Baptist Church off of Highway 6 and West Airport. Donations can be made to Oak Lake Baptist Church in his memory.
