Sue was born December 3, 1946 in Freeport, Texas to Otto and Valasta (Vrlla) Howe. Sue grew up in Guy, Texas and graduated from Needville High School in 1965. In 1969, Sue graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a Bachelor’s degree in the Arts. This was the beginning of a dedicated teaching career spanning over 30 years.
During her career, Sue taught Reading and History to seventh and eighth grade students in the Freeport and Brookshire school districts. She enjoyed engaging with her students and made lifelong friends with fellow teachers.
In addition to her teaching career, Sue had a great passion for books and was an enthusiastic reader and writer. She shared this love of literature with her family and friends, always gifting books accompanied with a thoughtful note about why the book was meaningful to her and what she thought the recipient may enjoy.
Over the years, she shared her love of reading with countless others, donating over a thousand books to local libraries in the Katy and Sugar Land areas.
Sue is survived by her brother Tommy Howe and wife, Barbara, along with nieces Cara Hannah and husband, John, Kristie Canow and husband, Adam, and Erin Haugen and husband, Austin; great-nephews and nieces, Juliet Hannah, Westin and Kate Canow, and Charlie and Ted Haugen.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Sue's name to the Needville High School Scholarship Fund: NHSSF, P.O. Box 93, Needville, Texas 77461.
There will be a private family service.
