

Vera Evelyn Webster Lewallen, 89, joined her beloved parents and six brothers in Heaven on January 2. Vera was born in Hartley County, Texas on April 17, 1924. She married her best friend, Jesse Lewallen, on September 12, 1946. Vera loved working with children. She taught first grade at Pat Neff Elementary School and Sunday School at both Sharpstown and Alief Baptist Churches. She was the chaperone for the Sharpstown Baptist Church youth choir as they toured the country for more than ten years. Many of those choir members still refer to Vera as their second mother. As a resident of University Place, she loved participating in all the activities and socializing with her “girlfriends”. Vera shared her positive, generous, loving spirit with everyone she came in contact with. She loved her family, friends, flowers, birds, ice cream, and warm cookies. Vera is survived by her husband Jesse, sister Eva Lou Cauthen, daughter Joy Lewallen, son John Lewallen and his wife Vicki, son Jerry, and grandchildren Susannah, Isaiah, Kristin, Erin, and her husband Josh Stark. Vera spent most of Thanksgiving playing with her new great-granddaughter, Molly Stark. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Friday, January 10 and the funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 11 at Earthman Funeral Home 12555 South Kirkwood, Stafford, Texas 77477. Burial will be Sunday, January 12 at 1:00pm at Alice Fraternal Cemetery in Alice, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vera's name to Meals on Wheels, Bayou Land Conservancy, Trees for Houston, or any charity of your choice.
