

He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He attended primary/secondary schooling in Houston Texas. Continuing his Christian journey he fellowship under the leadership of his father Elder Scott as a child. Later as young man served under the late Rev. CM Cooper at University Christian Church (DOC), Rev Norman Fiddmont Good Shepherd Christian Church and Rev. Will L. Moore of Garden Grove Christian (DOC). During his Christian journey, he accepted his calling to the Ministry of the Gospel in May 2000. He attend/graduated on July 11, 2003 from the Emmett J Dickson Memorial Institute at Jarvis Christian College Hawkins, Texas. Upon graduating he was Ordained on December 3, 2005 as a Minister of the Christian Church Disciple of Christ., shortly after became Associate Pastor of Garden Grove Christian Church under the leadership of Rev. Will L. Moore. Honoring his calling of Evangelism, he was a Hospice Chaplin, his joy and passion was visiting the nursing homes and hospitals ministering to them as well as the staff and support teams. Never losing sight of his duties as Associate Pastor of the Garden Grove Christian Church (DOC). Where he faithfully serve as Board Chairman, President/Vice President of the Texas Christian Missionary Fellowship District IV, Sunday School Superintendent/Adult Class teacher, Youth /Young Adult Minister, Janitor, part-time yardman or whatever the church may needed. He took pleasure in fishing, watching football, working with Boy Scouts (Urban Schools) and most important spending time with family and friends.
On April 11, 1998, he married the love of his life Detra Lynette Ned-Flakes; they shared 25 yrs. of love and raised a beautiful God-fearing family. They shared the love of God, music, fishing, old movies, watching and attending football, baseball and basketball games both of their children and professional.
On December 2, 2023. The Reverend Winford Roscar Flakes, Sr., was called to his heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his mother Evangelist Florence Evelyn Flakes Gentry, father Elder Benjamin Scott, sister Glenda Bedford and daughter Marissa Batiste.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Detra Flakes of 25 years, brothers Marvin Fenix, Minister Darnell Flakes (Mae), Benjamin Scott, Jr., and sister Melvena Scott. Children: Chrysantheum Prater (Antonio), Winford Flakes, Jr., Kristen Brenee` James, US Army Sgt. Wendell Leon James, II., Bethabra Lee Flakes and US Army/Airborne Spc. Josiah Onesimus Flakes, son-in-law Christopher Batiste, 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. Father-in-law Ervin Ned, Sr., sister/brother-in-laws. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins an other extended family members.

A Homegoing Celebration for the Life of Rev. Winford will be held on Saturday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Garden Grove Christian Church, 4802 Pardee Street, Houston, Texas 77026.
The interment to follow, via funeral procession to Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland.
Following the interment, all are invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Winford during a repast dinner at Garden Grove Christian Church, 4802 Pardee Street, Houston, Texas 77026.
